Protect Your Energy - Avoid Absorbing Negative Energies

How many times do you meet with certain people and feel completely drained while with others you always walk away feeling energized? Many people hold onto negative energies from others in their work place, from family members or from certain friendship situations. We all come into contact with people that simply suck us energetically dry and I call them the energy vampires. What happens when your energy is taken and how do you not only combat it, but protect yourself from having it happen again?

When your energy is drained you will feel exhausted either on a subtle or dramatic level.

When it's subtle you are generally in a situation within your environment where gradually, over the course of the day, you begin to feel fatigued (not sleepy.) You find you lack concentration and are easily distracted. It may take a little time to identify it as an energy drain rather than sleepiness, as often it will happen when you have people around you who gently take your energy because they need your emotional and mental support all day.

When it's dramatic - you know it. It's extremely obvious when your energy is sucked by people who heap noticeable drama or aggression on you within an instant of meeting or coming in contact with them. These people have high emotional needs and you will find yourself frustrated, impatient and upset within a very short space of time in their company.

While either level is literally energy draining as it happens, the impact is more profound on your life than you realize. For example, you will begin to automatically think negatively about the environment you must enter into when you are dealing with these people. Therefore family gatherings, work places and other social events take on an unpleasant or challenging scenario in your mind rather than an open and relaxed one. Without any conscious realization you have automatically allowed someone else's energy to influence where you go, when you go there and what experience you can have in that environment.

How do you take back the power and control from those who take your energy whether it is consciously done by them or not?

Ask yourself why you choose to be around this person, situation or environment. What is it that they or it offer you? Then work with the answer. If you can choose not to, and you do not want to be with them, then minimize your contact. You have the right to have minimal contact if you choose. If this person is at work and unavoidable, then state what you are and are not prepared to do as part of your job function. Should this person be within your family or friendship area then outline to yourself what you are and are not prepared to converse about and actually let them know your boundaries.


Use white light. I find that white light gives us the capacity to think clearly, move negative feelings or frequencies and set and establish new feelings and frequencies. Imagine that you have a plastic bag - the kind you place lunches in to keep them fresh. Imagine placing the negative energy vampire and the situation around them into this bag and then visualize this bag as a white, bright luminous color. What you are doing here is containing your frustration, isolating their negative energy and minimizing the impact of the situation on you. Then in your mind ask your spirit guides to take the bag and place it within their strength to resolve.


Wash away their energy. Imagine that you are in a shower of white guidance light and allow it to wash away all of your energy from the day. As you do this say to yourself, "My highest and purest of guidance, please allow for all energy that is not mine to be removed through you and please only allow your strength and purpose to remain."
The interesting thing about other people's energy and the impact that energy vampires have on you is that they rarely realize how much they affect you, but these simple steps offer a solution to identify and minimize their impact.

Remember to recognize the energy vampire - who, where, when and how the energy depletion occurs. Minimize and, at the least, control the environment in which this occurs by getting serious about not allowing people to enter into situations or conversations you do not want to be part of.

Once you begin to manage this situation and become assertive with controlling your energetic reactions to your environment you will increase your attention span, your physical energy will grow and your capacity to recognize and move around your environments without cause for concern will amplify dramatically
